Presenting and publishing your work helps you build your résumé, strengthen graduate school applications, develop professional communication skills, and demonstrate the impact of your research to broader audiences.
The Office of Engaged Learning coordinates multiple opportunities for students to share their research and creative work. Our office also coordinates undergraduate research workshops and other events.
Ways you can share your work include:
- Presenting a poster at Research & Innovation Week
- Giving a conference-style talk at the Fall Research Symposium
- Publishing your work in the
- Creating audio or video content in the Podcast Studio

Publish your original research or creative scholarship in SMU's peer-reviewed . The JOUR is available on and in print. The journal accepts submissions from current and former SMU undergraduate students for work conducted while studying at SMU. Projects may include scientific research, engineering design, artistic works, performance-based projects, archival research, policy analysis, business research, and community-engaged scholarship. Submissions should be completed work and authors must have a faculty mentor. -
Research & Innovation Week
— Each spring, the Office of Engaged Learning partners with the Moody School of Graduate and Advanced Studies to present Research and Innovation Week. Research and Innovation Week is a fun time to see the breadth of research being conducted by the SMU community. All current SMU undergraduate students can present a poster at this event. -
Fall Research Symposium
— Each fall, students in select research and service programs are invited to give 10-minute oral presentations in a miniature professional conference. The programs include: Caswell Leadership Fellows, Cooper/McElvaney Fellows, Engaged Learning Fellows, Hamilton Scholars, Maguire Public Service Fellows, McNair Scholars, and Richter Fellows, and Summer Research Interns. -
Podcast Studio
—Want to share your research through audio or video? Use the Podcast Studio to create interviews, project explainers, public scholarship content, and research storytelling projects. The SMU Podcast Studio in Fondren Library, 2nd floor, is a joint venture between the Office of Engaged Learning and SMU Libraries. Students, faculty, and staff can reserve the Studio to create audio and visual content for personal and professional use.
