George W. Bush Institute Doctoral Fellowship
The George W. Bush Institute Doctoral Fellowship offers exceptional Ph.D. students in economics the opportunity to pursue rigorous doctoral training at SMU while contributing to policy-relevant economic research.
Established in 2018, the Bush Institute-SMU Economic Growth Initiative brings together the research strengths of the SMU Department of Economics and the George W. Bush Institute to advance scholarship on important economic issues and their implications for public policy.
Through the Initiative, select students are awarded five-year Ph.D. fellowships designed to attract and support outstanding scholars pursuing their doctorate in economics at SMU. Bush Institute Ph.D. Fellows receive comprehensive academic and financial support while engaging with research connected to the Initiative’s work.

There is no separate application for the fellowship. All applicants to the SMU Economics Ph.D. program are automatically considered for a George W. Bush Institute Doctoral Fellowship.
